What to look for when buying a barrel sauna
Wood Type (Canadian Cedar vs. Hemlock)
Red Cedar is naturally weather-resistant, decay-resistant, and expands evenly. Canadian Hemlock is excellent for heat retention but is best suited for indoors or outdoors with protective roofing.
Heater Requirements (220V vs. 110V)
Heaters above 3kW require a dedicated 220V-240V wire run directly from your main electrical panel. 110V models plug into standard outlets but take longer to heat up to temperature.
Assembly & Base Setup
Most saunas are shipped flat-packed as DIY kits. You must prepare a perfectly level pad (concrete, gravel, or decking) prior to assembly to prevent staves from shifting.
